Four Victims Wounded at Howe Park – Unlawful Gathering Erupts in Gunfire





On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unsanctioned event of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Park in the Arden-Arcade section of Sacramento erupted in gunfire when between 20 and 25 shots rang out as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were working to dispersing the crowd.

What Happened

Shortly after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department was alerted reporting persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at Howe Park. A second report described a potential physical confrontation and individuals running from the park.

A sheriff's helicopter was called in and surveyed the area from above but failed to identify any physical confrontation.

At the same time, hundreds of individuals had congregated at Howe Park for what the sheriff's office identified as an unapproved assembly. Responding deputies positioned themselves around the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes instructing attendees to vacate the area using public address systems.

As officers worked to clear the park, 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the area — sending the crowd scattering in all directions.

Those Injured

Four victims — one woman and three male victims, all in check here their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. Two sustained immediate injuries, one victim had moderate injuries, and here one was treated for minor injuries. All four were said to be in stable condition. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded and assisted with triage on scene.

At the Scene

Gunfire originated from click here the Cottage Way corridor side of the park in the vicinity of the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block. The nearby Home Depot was locked down for a period of time. Additional shell casings were located on Cottage Way, with rounds lodged found in the wrought Howe Park shooting Sacramento iron fencing around the nearby Home Depot — confirming gunfire directed south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot. Crime scene investigators and detectives combed the scene for evidence throughout the night.

What We Know About Suspects

Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was confirmed that a vehicle of interest — a Kia automobile — was stopped in Solano County with four occupants detained.
